Professional Experience

Mechanical Engineer — Polymer & Composites Branch

Jan 2025 – Present

NAVAIR / NAWCAD, Materials Division · Patuxent River, MD

  • Support polymer additive manufacturing, composite-material, inspection, and mechanical-test activities for naval aviation sustainment programs, including MQ-4C and CH-53K-related work.
  • Characterized 80+ ULTEM 9085 fastener pull-through coupons across thickness, print orientation, hole preparation, and fastener variables; evaluated load-displacement response and documented failure modes.
  • Develop test plans, specimen-preparation methods, execution procedures, and data-reduction approaches for polymer and composite characterization.
  • Operate and troubleshoot FDM/FFF and SLA systems; resolve build failures through slicer adjustments, moisture control, bed-adhesion correction, and design-for-print review.

Industrial Engineering Workforce Development Rotation

Feb 2026 – Aug 2026

Fleet Readiness Center Southwest (FRCSW), Materials Division · North Island, San Diego, CA

  • Supported LM2500 depot sustainment by reviewing engineering requests, measurement reports, technical-manual limits, repair options, and Bill of Materials data for configuration-controlled dispositions.
  • Managed AM Portal requests end to end — feasibility review, material/delivery estimates, design uploads, fit-check coordination, and labor/material/print-time tracking.
  • Designed, scanned, printed, and installed tool-tracing inserts; projected ~$140,000 in savings for a portion of the shop floor versus purchased and laser-cut foam methods.
  • Developed nylon masking plugs for an E-2D launch bar and produced 50 blast-shop conveyor buckets for ~$177 in AM material versus $825+ for commercial replacements.

Selected Technical Projects

ULTEM 9085 Thin-Wall Process Optimization

Senior Design / NAVAIR-Sponsored · Sep 2023 – May 2024

Used a Taguchi L27 design of experiments, Fortus 450mc fabrication, mechanical testing, and microCT review to cut support material by ~80% and print time by ~23% while evaluating thin-wall performance.

Environmental Durability of Aerospace Polymer Materials

NAWCAD Materials Work · 2025 – Present

Prepared and tracked flexible and elastomeric AM specimens exposed to water, salt solution, ethylene glycol, hydraulic fluid, JP-5, turbine oil, and related operational fluids.

Remote AM Monitoring Research

Missouri University of Science and Technology · Jun 2023 – Aug 2023

Integrated an Ender-3 printer with OctoPrint, Node-RED, and SQLite to support remote monitoring, data acquisition, and printer-control workflow development.
