Remote Additive Manufacturing Monitoring Research

Connecting an Ender-3 printer to a remote monitoring and data-acquisition workflow using OctoPrint, Node-RED, and SQLite.

Missouri University of Science and Technology · June – August 2023

Engineering challenge

Support development of remote monitoring, data acquisition, and printer-control workflows for an additive manufacturing system.

Constraints

The work used an Ender-3 printer. The available sources do not describe the network architecture, captured signals, reliability targets, or security controls.

My contribution

I integrated an Ender-3 printer with OctoPrint, Node-RED, and SQLite to support remote monitoring, data acquisition, and printer-control workflow development.

Methods & tools

  • Ender-3 printer integration.
  • OctoPrint for printer monitoring/control integration.
  • Node-RED and SQLite as components of the research workflow.

Verification

The integration is recorded in the existing portfolio and résumé. Performance benchmarks, uptime measurements, and comparative production outcomes are not provided.

Engineering outcomes

Developed the integration in support of the research workflow. No unreported productivity improvement, production deployment, or security certification is claimed.

Lessons & applications

This work connects hands-on additive manufacturing with software-driven monitoring and data handling. It provides context for my technical interests in manufacturing systems and practical process visibility.
